The Northwestern High School boys and girls basketball teams continued their winning ways with home victories this week.

The Tiger boys cruised past Ladysmith 79-50 Friday, Jan. 11, while the girls defeated Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 64-55, Thursday, Jan. 10.

The Tigers improved to 9-2 overall and remain undefeated in the Heart O’ North Conference at 7-0 with their win over the Lumberjacks.

The pace was fast and furious in the opening minutes with Northwestern’s full-court pressure helping it open an 11-4 lead.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by the Lumberjacks made it an 11-10 game, but the Tigers gradually took a double digit lead before settling on a 38-24 lead at the half.

The Tigers’ largest lead in the second half was 28 points (72-46.

Northwestern has a week off until playing at Chetek (1-9, 1-5) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.

Girls hoops

The Tigers improved to 11-2 overall and 6-2 in the HON with their win over the Bulldogs.

The Tigers were led by Kennedy Nelson and Kasha Hughlett with 20 and 16 points, respectively.

Madison Haas led the Bulldogs (4-10, 3-5) with 20 points.

The Tigers play at Spooner (1-6 HON) Tuesday, Jan. 15, and host Hayward (5-5, 5-2) Thursday, Jan. 17. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.
