Tiger girls and boys notch wins

The Northwestern girls basketball team improved to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the Heart O’ North Conference with a 62-24 win over Cumberland Thursday night in Maple.

The Tigers, who led 40-14 at the half, got 11 points from Katie Lundeen and 10 points each from Kasha Hughlett and Sam Hoegen.

Mac Correll added nine points with three 3-pointers.

Northwestern is scheduled to play in the Cloquet tournament Wednesday and Thursday.

Boys hoops

The Tiger boys snuck out of Barron Friday night with a 44-42 win over the Golden Bears.

Brody Payton led the Tigers with 13 points. Greg Ruhman was next with 10 points.

Northwestern will play Ashland in the quarterfinals of the Rice Lake Tournament at 5 p.m. Thursday. The second semifinal game is Osceola vs. Rice Lake.

The third-place and championship games are Friday.
