After a four-game skid, the Duluth Huskies won their series opener against the Eau Claire Express on Sunday, with a score of 4-3.
Huskies pitcher Ben Pedersen allowed two runs in six innings, also striking out five and walking two.
New Huskies players bolstered the offense. Blayne Robinson hit a double in the second inning, which led to a three-run inning for Duluth. Robinson followed it up with a triple in the fourth, eventually scoring on an Ambren Voitik single.
Veteran Huskie Ambren Voitik was 4 for 4 and drove in two runs.
Zach Statzer came in to relieve Pedersen and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits, striking out three and walking zero.
The game then turned over to Eli Sundquist in the top of the ninth. Huskies fans started biting their nails after an error, hit and walk. Then Sundquist got a pop-up out to second base and recorded his first save of the season.
The Huskies improve to 2-5 on the season, while the Express fall to 1-6. The Huskies will be back in action Monday, June 7, at 6:35pm, in Eau Claire as they look to start a winning streak.
