Northwood/Solon Springs 6,
Freshman Kaden Corlett tossed a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead NSS to the Lakeland-East victory in Minong.
The only blemishes for Corlett were a pair of walks and hit batter. He also had a double offensively while senior Collin Krmpotich went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI and junior Colby Latvala had a double, run and RBI.
“Fantastic pitching performance by Kaden tonight,” coach Nate Ahlberg said. “He pounded the strike zone tonight with his fastball and the Warcat hitters couldn’t touch it.
“Our pitching has really carried us this week as we’ve only given up one earned run in three games. Our pitching depth will be an asset as we go into the playoffs in a couple of weeks.”
Northwood/Solon Springs (10-3 overall, 8-0 Lakeland-East) is ranked No. 10 in Wisconsin Division 4 per the state rankings released Monday. The team plays Monday, May 24, at Clear Lake, and hosts Flambeau Tuesday, May 25, in Solon Springs.
Clear Lake is 8-2 overall, 5-1 in Lakeland-East play.
“Monday’s game at Clear Lake could decide the conference championship,” Ahlberg said. “Their only loss in the conference was to us two weeks ago, and we sit undefeated. A win on Monday puts us in the driver’s seat as the second place team would have two losses and we’d have only three conference games remaining.”
