Northwood/Solon Springs 10,
Bruce 0, 5 innings
Senior Collin Krmpotich had a pair of doubles, two runs and three RBIs as Northwood/Solon Springs cruised to victory in its season opener in Solon Springs.
Senior Drake Debeir added a double and earned the win on the mound, tossing a two-hitter with a walk and 10 strikeouts. Freshman Abe Ahlberg was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
It was the first official win for the Northwood/Solon Springs baseball program, which played games together last summer but were unofficial.
The team got off to a great start in the first inning, scoring five runs before getting its first hit thanks to three errors and four walks. Krmpotich then hit a bases-loaded double to clear the bases.
“Great start to our season,” coach Nate Ahlberg said. “Drake threw very well tonight, effectively using his fastball and breaking ball. He kept the Bruce batters off-balance and allowed only three base runners in five innings.”
Northwood/Solon Springs is at Winter/Birchwood Thursday, April 29, and Ashland on Saturday, May 1, in Solon Springs.
