The UW-Superior baseball team slammed 14 hits, including five home runs, but dropped a decision to the UW-La Crosse Indians. UWLC matched the Yellowjackets homer for homer and piled up 16 hits in a more timely fashion to get a 22-11 win. Jim Jago hit two of the UWS homers. The other Superior round-trippers came off the bats of Steve Stano, Mike Sather and Bruce Krensing. The loss left the Yellowjackets with a 3-11 Wisconsin State University Conference record. (1977)

Elmer Zoltak fired a sizzling 717 men’s national count honor series in the Monday Night Couples Bowling League at Zowin’s Lanes. He slammed games of 266, 206 and 245. He carries a 190 average. (1980)

The Nemadji Golf Course opened for the season at noon today. Pro Mark S. Carlson said the course is “extremely wet, but playable,” and otherwise is in the best opening-day condition it has been during the past 10 years. (1981)
