The Northwoods League announced Friday that its season opener will be delayed after Wisconsin extended its “Safer at Home” order through May 26, making a league-wide opening day of May 26 impossible.

The league said it will continue to monitor state orders in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus, including restrictions on large gatherings. In the meantime, the league has been considering various scenarios so that when baseball can be safely played, it will be played. Until then the season opener is delayed indefinitely.

The 22-team Northwoods League includes the Duluth Huskies, who were scheduled to open the season at the Bismarck Larks. Duluth’s home opener isn’t scheduled until June 1 against the St. Cloud Rox.
