The University of Wisconsin-Superior baseball team picked up its first conference award of the season with Bryce Flanagan being named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week (March 11-16).

Flanagan, a sophomore from Brainerd, Minn., led the Yellowjackets to a 2-2 start to the season by going 6-for-9 with four RBIs, three walks and a home run. He also finished with 1.111 slugging and .750 on-base percentages.

The baseball team fell to 2-3 with an 18-3, seven-inning loss to St. John’s Tuesday, March 19, at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.

The Johnnies scored five runs in the second inning and nine in the fourth while improving to 13-3.

The Yellowjackets had seven hits, including RBI doubles by Travis Miller and Mike Rodriguez; two singles by Matthew Boyde; and an RBI single by Cory Albertson.

Ethan Roe drove in five runs for the Johnnies (13-2) on a two-run triple and a two-run double.

UWS, which played Concordia (Wis.) on Wednesday, March 20, plays a doubleheader with Carleton at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 22, then wraps up its Arizona trip against Hamline at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23.

 

Softball

UWS split a pair of games in Florida on Tuesday, March 19, beating Mount St. Mary College 9-2 and losing to St. Norbert 6-2.

Damara Theis scattered 10 hits and walked none as UWS improved to 3-10 with its win.

Ashley Taipale homered for UWS in the first inning; Bailey Armstrong had two hits, including a two-run single; former Superior Spartan catcher Gabby Gidley hit a  two-run double; and Alayna Tulip and Amber Yoch had RBI singles.

St. Norbert scored four first-inning runs in its win over UWS.

UWS had five hits, including two apiece by Tiffany Kirk and Armstrong and one by Gidley, who also plated Yoch with a fifth-inning sac fly.

UWS, which hosted Plattsburgh State and MCLA on Thursday, March 21, wraps up its Florida trip with games against Tufts and Framingham State on Friday, March 22.

 

Apparel partnership

The UMAC announced it has partnered with BSN SPORTS as the official apparel provider for the nine-member league for the next three years.

BSN SPORTS will be the exclusive provider of conference championship apparel for the UMAC during the length of its agreement as well as provide various championship enhancement give away items for competing student-athletes and spectators.

Further, the company will be the sole provider of apparel and mementos included as part of various UMAC programming, events and initiatives during the three-year stretch through the 2020-2021 academic year.
