Tiger baseball team finishes second in HON
The Northwestern High School baseball team wrapped up its regular season with a 19-9 six-inning win over the Grantsburg Pirates Tuesday evening in Iron River.
The Tigers improved to 12-6 overall and finish in second place in the Heart O’ North Conference at 11-3.
Carson Holsclaw picked up the win Tuesday with four scoreless innings in relief of starter Andrew Klobucher. Holsclaw gave up an unearned run and didn’t allow a hit with four strikeouts and three walks.
The Tigers finished with 16 hits, including a double, two singles and two RBIs by freshman Dylan Ronchi.
Holsclaw also doubled twice and knocked in four runs and freshman Brennen Werner doubled, singled and had three RBIs.
In earlier action, the Tigers swept a doubleheader from Ladysmith on Saturday.
Jake Brill and Klobucher were the winning pitchers, while Ronchi knocked in the winning runs in game two with a two-out, two-strike double in the seventh inning.
The Tigers also got two hits and two RBIs from Dayne Evanson and two hits from Gervase Thompson.
The Tigers had 12 hits in the opener, led by Holsclaw, who was 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Klobucher added a triple and single and Thompson singled twice.
The Tigers opened the WIAA Division 2 playoffs by hosting Spooner Thursday evening. The winner will play at No. 1 Ashland on Tuesday.
