The University of Wisconsin-Superior baseball team secured the No. 5 seed for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Sunday night in its final conference doubleheader against Crown College.

The Yellowjackets clinched their playoff berth with a 16-4 win in the opener. Crown turned the tables on UWS with a 7-5 win in game two.

UWS (11-24, 8-8 UMAC) wrapped up its regular season Monday against Augsburg at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis.

The ’ Jackets will play Northland College in the opening round of the UMAC tournament Thursday at Wade Stadium in Duluth.

Braeden Barr was 4-of-5 on Sunday with five RBIs, while Cory Albertson was 3-for-6. Seven different ’Jackets collected two or more hits in the first game, while four had one hit in the second.

UWS also swept Minnesota Morris 16-6 and 10-8 Saturday at Ted Whereatt Field.

Albertson’s game-winning home run in the bottom of the 10th inning completed the sweep in game two.

Barr went 4-for-5 with two runs and five RBIs to power UWS in the seven-inning opener, while Nick McNosky added three hits and four runs.

Barr staked the Yellowjackets (9-21 overall, 7-7 UMAC) to the early lead with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first, McNosky added two hits, two runs and two RBIs and Matt Boyde had a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.

’JACKET JOTTINGS: UWS went 1-2 at Augsburg Monday, losing 13-4, winning 15-8 and losing 16-5 in seven innings.

UWS saw its season come to a close with a pair of losses Thursday on the first day of the UMAC tournament at Kenwood Field in Duluth.

The Yellowjackets lost to Northwestern 17-3 in five innings and 5-6 in 10 innings to Bethany Lutheran.

UWS scored once in the third inning and twice in the fifth before Bethany forced extra innings with three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Each team scored twice in the ninth inning before Bethany won the game in the top of the 10th.

Ciarra Stavang had four hits in seven at-bats on the day, while Sara Fjeran was 2-of-4. Macy Hanson pitched 12.2 innings on the day, notching 12 strikeouts.

Former Superior Spartan Gabby Gidley had a hit in both games for UWS.

Northwestern went on to clinch its first trip to the NCAA tournament with a 7-3 win over St. Scholastica in Saturday’s championship game.

The No. 3-seeded Eagles cruised through the three-day tournament thanks to an offensive explosion – they outscored their opponents 34-7 and tallied a total of 17 against the No. 1 Saints in back-to-back games.
