The awards keep coming for University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Cory Albertson.

Following a sophomore season that included being named the 2018 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Year, the first baseman/catcher from Stillwater, Minn., was named the NCAA Division III statistical champion for home runs per game.

Albertson, who was also named to all-region teams by the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings and D3 Baseball, tallied a mark of 0.38 home runs per game to lead the nation in just 34 games played.

Among all DIII baseball players, Albertson was eighth in slugging percentage (0.847) and home runs (13). He also ranked in the top 60 in three other categories: 15th in runs per game, 39th in RBIs, and 59th in batting average.

Along with leading the UMAC in home runs and slugging percentage, Albertson had a league-high 42 RBIs and was second in batting average (.411), hits (55) and runs (46).

Albertson is the second UMAC player in the last three seasons to be crowned a NCAA statistical champion. During the 2016 season, Carson Ferry of Northland College recorded 13.29 strikeouts per nine innings.

’JACKET JOTTINGS: On the field, Albertson owned a .978 fielding percentage and had 160 putouts on the season.
