A glance at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics

There will be seven new medal events, including men's and women's big air freestyle, women's monobob, mixed team competitions in freestyle skiing aerials, ski jumping, and snowboard cross, and the mixed relay in short track speed skating.

The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, officially called the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, will be contested this month. The 2022 Winter Olympics are scheduled to include a record 109 events over 15 disciplines in seven sports.

During the 2018 Olympics, Norway captured more medals than any other country, winning 39 (including 14 gold) in South Korea. Germany won 31 medals (14 gold) while Canada tallied 29 medals (11 gold) and the U.S. finished fourth among countries with 23 (9 gold).

The opening ceremonies will be Friday, Jan. 4, though some curling, skiing and hockey events begin competition on Wednesday and Thursday. View the full TV schedule .
