Both of Wisconsin-Superior's soccer teams continued a weekend scoring rampage on Saturday. After winning 5-0 at Crown on Friday, the Yellowjackets women routed Minnesota Morris 6-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
Niya Wilson assisted on the Yellowjackets' first goal (scored by Annah Schussman), then scored the next four. Her first two came 57 seconds apart in the 27th and 28th minutes. She also tallied in the 59th and 69th for a total of 12 goals in UWS's first 10 games.
The Yellowjackets had 18 shots on target to the Cougars' one.
Tori Vosburg and Schussman had two assists apiece for UWS (7-3, 5-0 UMAC), which plays at University of Northwestern on Friday.
Yellowjackets hang seven on Cougars
Protus Babaya notched the last two legs of a hat trick just five seconds apart as Wisconsin-Superior routed Minnesota Morris 7-0 on Saturday at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
Babaya recorded the first goal of the game and his fifth of the season in the 14th minute. Nicolai Stokker and Phillip Eriksen took it from there to give the Yellowjackets a 3-0 lead at halftime. Babaya collected his team's fifth and sixth goals of the game at 69:17 and 69:22.
Blake Perry had a goal and two assists for the Yellowjackets. Payton Anderson and Alex Paredes shared goalkeeping duties for UWS, with Anderson recording the lone save.
UWS (5-5, 5-1 UMAC) has a non-league road trip Tuesday at St. Olaf.
UWS stymied in Morris
Minnesota Morris held the Wisconsin-Superior offense in check en route to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-15) win in UMAC play on Saturday in Morris, Minnesota.
UWS was held to 27 kills and a .056 hitting percentage for the match, and had only one player (Cassy Teff, nine) with more than seven kills. The Cougars also had eight aces to the Yellowjackets' one and eight blocks to UWS' two.
Jenna Anderson led the UWS defense with 21 digs. Megan Holz had 11 digs and a team-best 24 assists. Lydia Nash led UMM with both 13 kills and 12 digs.
UWS (5-12, 3-2 UMAC) hosts the University of Northwestern on Friday.
