Kaden Kimmes went 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI and Jason Samarziya was 3-for-5 with a run and five RBIs as Superior overcame a 4-2 deficit after four innings to beat Northwestern 11-8 in a nonconference high school baseball game Tuesday, June 8, in Iron River.
Jonny Rhodes and Ethan Raye added two hits apiece for the Spartans (16-4) while Dylan Ronchi, Kole Paulson, Brayden Holsclaw and Sean Moreney all had two hits apiece for the Tigers (10-11).
The teams combined on 27 hits — 15 for Superior, 12 for Northwestern — and nine errors — five for Superior, four for Northwestern.

Northwood/Solon Springs rallies for win
Zoey Vaara pitched seven strong innings, and Northwood/Solon Springs broke from a 2-2 tie with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to down Hurley 7-2 in a nonconference softball game Monday, June 7, in Hurley.
Annika Patrick and Bailey Monson had two hits apiece to lead NSS (16-1) while Mackenzie Backman had two hits to lead the Northstars (20-4).
“Excellent game,” NSS co-coach Dale Rajala said. “Hurley is a very tough place to play. The girls really battled and made big plays when we needed them. We’ve been working hard on situational defense and getting more mature at the plate, and Zoey Vaara did a great job on the mound.”

Northwestern’s Meyer fires 72 to win sectional
Northwestern junior Trent Meyer shot 72 to win the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 sectional golf tournament Tuesday, June 8, in Black River Falls.
Northwestern finished fourth in the team standings.
Lakeland and Black River Falls advance to next week’s state tournament in Wisconsin Dells as the top two teams, while Meyer will advance as an individual.
