The University of Wisconsin-Superior released a statement Monday that it will not be allowing any spectators for its winter sports season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Women’s hockey begins play Tuesday, followed by men's and women's basketball, men's hockey and men's and women's indoor track and field later this week.
"After long and careful consideration, it was determined we would not be allowing spectators for any of our home sporting events for the foreseeable future," UWS athletic director Nick Bursik said. "We completely understand the disappointment the families of our student-athletes and our loyal fans have with this decision, but in order for us to follow Douglas County Public Health guidelines and safely be able to conduct our athletic events in the safest manner possible, we can't allow spectators in our facilities at this time.”
Many Yellowjackets contests will be broadcast on ifan.tv and aired on KUWS-FM 91.3.
