On the heels of winning its second consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship, the University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s golf team swept the four top season-ending awards.
Joey Cummings, the 2017 conference medalist, was named Player of the Year, Zac Joki was named Rookie of the Year and Paul Eberhardt was named Coach of the Year for a third-straight year.
Sam Albrecht and Tyler Smith joined Yellowjackets teammates Peterson, Cummings and Joki on the All-UMAC first team.
Following a tie for fourth place in the UMAC championship, UWS junior Alayna Tulip and freshman Maddie Freidman were named to All-UMAC teams.
Tulip was named first-team and Friedman was honorable-mention selection. Senior Shalese Snowdon was the UWS representative on the UMAC Sportsmanship Team.
After last week’s 2-1 double-overtime win at Martin Luther and a 4-0 loss at Luther, UWS dropped to No. 8 in the latest United Soccer Coaches North Regional Rankings.
Central College (10-1-1) is No. 1, followed by Luther, Loras, UW-Whitewater, St. Norbert, Gustavus Adolphus and St. Thomas.
The Yellowjackets returned to action with a 6-0 win over North Central in a UMAC game Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
Blake Perry scored twice and four teammates added goals as UWS improved to 8-3-2 overall, 4-0 UMAC.
Eric Watson and Danny Kearns staked UWS to a 2-0 lead just 14 minutes into the game before Perry netted his first goal at 17:29. Miguel Ocampo and Sam Waylee Jr. sandwiched goals around Perry in the second half to complete the pasting.
UWS owned an 18-2 edge in shots on goal, with goalkeeper Payton Anderson recording two saves.
The Rams, who got 12 saves from Isaac Magisha and Tian Elder, fell to 2-11-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the UMAC.
UWS plays at Bethany Lutheran at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.
Lexi Oeltjen tallied a match-high 10 kills and sophomore Hannah Goggleye added seven to lead UWS to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-11) sweep of Northland at the Kendrigan Center on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Ashland. The match lasted just 53 minutes.
The 'Jackets (9-12) were also led by Brylee Colligan and Payton Scherber, who chipped in with 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Gina Baertsch added 17 assists and Megan Holz had 27 of Superior's 33 assists.
UWS returns to action this weekend at the Marty Petersen Invitational at UW-Oshkosh. Friday’s matches are against St. Norbert (5:30 p.m.) and Finlandia (7:30 p.m.).
UWS went 1-1 this week, losing to St. Mary’s 8-0 on Monday, Oct. 7, at Ochrymowycz Field in Willmer, Minn., and winning 4-0 over North Central Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
St. Mary's scored five times in the first half and Jordyn Matthews scored two goals for the Cardinals.

Mackenzie Oehlerking, Tatum Lardinois, Emma Street and Claire Smith all scored in the opening half for the Yellowjackets (3-7-2, 2-0), who had a 19-4 advantage in shots on goal over the Rams (0-9, 0-4).
