Just three days after winning its first ever playoff game, the season came to an end for the Superior High School girls soccer team with a 10-0 loss to No. 1 Kimberly in a WIAA Division regional game Tuesday, May 28, at Wausau West.
Superior also got to host its first WIAA playoff game in school history and took advantage of its home field with a 4-1 victory over the Chippewa Falls Cardinals on Saturday, May 25, at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
The Spartans, who also defeated Chippewa Falls twice during the regular season, didn’t waste any time in taking a 1-0 lead as junior Ailey Rude scored off a rebound in the third minute.
Erin Walpole had a hand in Superior’s next two goals. Her corner corner kick went in off a Cardinal player and senior Amelia Evavold was credited with the goal, she then scored herself with a shot just out of the reach of the Cardinal keeper.
Haley Mason scored for the Cardinals.
Superior’s season ends at 4-12-2. Kimberly hosts Appleton West on Saturday, June 1.
The season ended for the Spartans with a sixth-place finish at the WIAA Division 1 sectional Wednesday, May 29, at the New Richmond Golf Course.
