Northwestern High School’s Justin Sedin and Jake Brill teamed up to shut out the Bloomer Blackhawks 4-0 Tuesday, April 30, in Iron River.
Sedin pitched the first 5 ⅔ innings, allowing three hits with 10 strikeouts. Brill finished up, allowing a hit with two strikeouts and one walk.
The Tigers outhit the Blackhawks 12-4, led by Nolan Gustafson, who was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Brennan Werner doubled and singled; David Wakefield and Sedin both singled twice; and Kole Paulsen had a single and RBI.
The Tigers' first run came in the second inning when Gustafson led off with a single and eventually scored on an error.
It went to 2-0 in the fourth when Brennan Werner doubled and scored on Paulsen's single.
The Tigers added two more runs in the sixth as Sedin singled and Carson Holsclaw walked with two outs and scored singles by Wakefield and Paulsen, respectively.
The Tigers play two games at Hayward at 4 p.m. Friday, May 3, and play at Webster at 5 p.m. Monday, May 6.
The Tigers picked up four Heart O’ North Conference wins this week, including two Monday, April 29, at Barron, and two more Tuesday’s April 30, at Ladysmith.
Northwestern finished at 157 at Barron, followed by the host Golden Bears, 197; and Cumberland, 204.
The Tigers were led by 2018 state qualifier Trevor Priem’s 1-over-par 37. Following were Kordell Swanson, 38; Brett Botten, 40; Spencer Anttila, 42; and Trent Meyer, 43.
The Tigers then shot 159 Tuesday at Ladysmith, led by Swanson’s 38, and Anttila’s 39. Botten and Priem both came in with 41s and Trent Meyer shot a season-low 42.
Ladysmith split on Tuesday with a 203 and Bloomer carded 208.
Up next for the Tigers is the Scott Miller Invite Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, at Hayward. Northwestern will then host Bloomer and Ladysmith at 4 p.m. Monday, May 6.
