The Midwest Ice-Racing Association will wrap up its season with races Saturday, Feb. 23, on Allouez Bay.

The season finale, as well as the Jesse Edwards Memorial, was originally scheduled to take place near the Meteor on Barker's Island, but rough ice made the move to the Allouez Bay necessary.

The post-race awards ceremony will still take place at the Barkers Island Inn and Convention Center following Saturday’s races.

The first four events, including last week at Big Sandy Resort in McGregor, Minn., have been averaging 120 racers, which is expected again this weekend. Twenty-five racers are also expected to compete in the Jesse Edwards Memorial, which is named after Edwards, who died from complications from asthma at age 20 in 2013.

Twenty-four titles will be up for grabs Saturday, including the Bike 65cc division (ages 7-11) where Miles Morris holds an 11-point lead over 10-year-old Mikaila Berg.

The classmates at Bryant Elementary School are currently sitting 1-2 in the standings with 95 and 84 points, respectively. The difference between the two was only four points heading into the McGregor race, where Morris finished in first place and Berg fourth.

Morris also leads the 60-100cc division with 92 points, while Brayden and Grason Crust are tied for second with 58 points. Berg, the only girl on the circuit, is fifth with 48 points.

"Miles sure is fast, he really gets around," said Mike Berg, Mikaila’s father. "Mikaila  is competitive and doesn't like to lose, but I told her just to go out there and have run and do the best you can do."

Mikaila Berg got the racing bug from her father, Mike, and his uncle, Jeff Berg.

"Jeff's kind of been the pioneer of this program, he's been doing this for 40-50 years," Mike Berg said.

Jeff Berg is also the creator of Iceberg Tires, which are used by most of the bigger bikes on the MIRA circuit. Mike Berg is also in the tire business, helping out with the smaller bikes.

"I just want to do all I can to help the sport grow," said Mike Berg, who is currently in 10th place in the Bike 30+ Open division and tied for 18th in Bike Open B.

Brock Zychowski currently holds the lead in three quad classes (Unstudded Open, Studded Open and “A” Studded 250cc); while Neil Pede, DJ Keeler, Rowdy Sorenson and Dylan Stucynski are on top of the standings in two classes each.

Pede leads in Bike Open A and Bike Open A for ages 14-19; Keeler leads in Bike Open B and Bike Open B for ages 14-29; Sorenson leads in Big Open C and Bike Open C for ages 14-19); and Stucynski tops the Quad "C" Studded 250 2- Stroke, 450 4-Stroke and Quad "C" Studded Open divisions.

The cost to attending the races is $10, which allows you access to the drives and the pits. All gate money will be included in prize money.

The gates open Saturday at 7 a.m.; practice is 8-10:30 a.m.; riders meet at 10:45 a.m.; and racing starts at 11 a.m.
