Northwestern High School sophomore Markus Brown finished in fifth place in the 76th annual WIAA State Wrestling Championship Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.
With a 3-2 record in the Division 2 113-pound weight class, Brown finished the season with a record of 37-5.
Brown pinned Cole Mattek of Sheboygan Falls, lost to Seymour’s Wyatt Kaczrowski, defeated Josh Frye of Viroqua, was pinned by Nekoosa’s Blaze Thurber, then won by injury default over Taedon Nichols of Luck/Frederic/Grantsburg/Siren.
NHS senior Zach Pooler was also in action at state, finishing with a 1-2 record at 145 pounds.
Pooler won his opening match over Reid Koenig of Prairie du Chien, then lost decisions to Joey Bianchi ot Two Rivers and Zach Boehnlein of Chilton/Hilbert to end his season with a record of 33-12.
