The Superior High School dance team will be making its 12th consecutive trip to the Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom/Coaches State Dance Championships.

In last weekend’s Western Regional at Wausau East, the Spartans finished in second place in D1 Kick and third in D1 Hip Hop.

The WACPC state championships are Saturday, Feb. 2, at the La Crosse Civic Center in La Crosse.

“I’m so proud of all the hard work they have put into these dances the past few months and I can’t wait to see how they do this weekend at state,” said first-year Spartan head coach Jackie Dietl.

Unfortunately, Dietl won’t be able to witness the event in person as she leaves Friday for a semester of school in Ecuador.

Taking over for Dietl will be assistant coaches Brooke Keeler and Emily Olson.

The Spartans’ kick dance is a “Rosie the Riveter” theme and the hip-hop dance is a “Barbie” theme.

Both Superior dances will take place in Saturday’s evening session. The kick performance is scheduled at 8:16 p.m. and the hip-hop dance at 9:20 p.m.

Superior's competition in the D1 Kick will be Mukwonago, Oshkosh West, Watertown, West Allis, Green Bay Preble, Eau Claire North and Bay Port.

The D1 Hip-Hop field includes Racine Horlick, Manitowoc, Sheboygan South, Middleton, Hamilton, Kimerly, Stevens Point, Waukesha North, Watertown, Sheboygan North and Hudson.

The lone senior on the squad is Elisa Blank. Remaining team members include London Jonasen, Stephanie Paine, Avery Quinones, Kelly Larson (manager), Kaiden Johnson, Janae Widiker, Marin Peterson, Katelyn Prochnow, Kaitlyn Pananen, Naomi McLennan, Emma Blomfelt, Rebecca Barnes, Elizabeth Johnson and Claudia Androsky.

SPARTAN SPIN: There will be a state send-off for the dance team at 7:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the SHS gym. This event is open to the public.
