A 10-0 run late in the first half helped Chippewa Falls pull away from the Spartans for a 65-44 win Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Chippewa Falls.
Superior trailed 21-16 with around four minutes remaining in the first half, but went scoreless the rest of the way and trailed 31-16 at the intermission.
“It was a hard-fought game, the score really doesn't show anything but the final result,” SHS coach Dave Kontny said. “We just had a couple of tough stretches where we couldn't buy a basket. We had good looks, it just wouldn't drop for us.”
The Spartans played better in the second half, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
“We gave them a ton of problems with our pressure in the second half, but again we just didn’t take advantage,” Kontny said. “Our kids played hard, we had a good game plan and I like where we are at. We are a ton better than we were last year at this time and our kids know it.
“There is a lot of season left so we need to continue getting better and see where it takes us.”
Chloe Kintop led the Spartans with 22 points. Niya Wilson was next with nine points, which included a pair of 3-pointers.
Aaliyah McMillan led the Cardinals with 23 points.
The Spartans host Duluth East at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Eau Claire Memorial at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
