For the first time in program history, the University of Wisconsin-Superior will be the top-seeded team in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer tournament.

The Yellowjackets locked up the No. 1 seed Oct. 20, with a 2-0 win over North Central, then secured the program’s first regular-season championship Oct. 24, with a 3-0 win over Northland College.

The Yellowjackets wrapped up an undefeated 11-0-1 conference season with a 3-1 win Saturday, Oct. 27, at Minnesota Morris.

With a bid to the NCAA Championship on the line, the playoffs began Monday, Oct. 29, with No. 5 Crown College (6-6) playing at No. 4 Minnesota Morris (6-4-2).

The Yellowjackets will host that winner in a semifinal game at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Morris is making its second-straight UMAC postseason appearance, while Crown returns to the postseason after missing out a year ago.

Wednesday’s other semifinal game has No. 2 St. Scholastica hosting No. 3 Martin Luther (7-3-2) at 11 a.m.

The Saints are in an unfamiliar position as the conference runner-up after losing and tying the Yellowjackets during the season. St. Scholastica enters the tournament 9-2-1 and will need to fend off a Martin Luther squad that handed the Saints their only other conference loss this season.

Wednesday’s semifinals winners will face off in the championship game Saturday, Nov. 3, at the site of the highest remaining seed.

In Saturday’s win over Morris, Aaron Blanchard scored off a free kick in the first half and Elliot Chapman and Blake Perry added second-half goals for the Yellowjackets (16-2-1 overall).

‘JACKET JOTTINGS: James Bruce leads UWS in UMAC scoring with nine goals and three assists for 21 points. Perry is second with 16 points (seven goals, two assists). … Keeper Dalton VonKaenel has a .601 GAA, .821 save percentage and one shutout.
