The University of Wisconsin-Superior volleyball team secured the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament with a 3-0 win over the North Central Rams on Friday, Oct. 26.
The Yellowjackets will host No. 3 Minnesota Morris at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.
UWS and Morris split during the regular season. The Cougars spoiled the Yellowjackets' shot at a conference title with a 3-1 win Oct. 20, while the Yellowjackets defeated Morris 3-2 at home Sept. 22.
For the sixth-straight season, the No. 1 seed for the UMAC tournament is Northwestern, which will host the winner of Monday’s match between No. 5 Bethany Lutheran and No. 4 St. Scholastica.
The winners of Wednesday’s semifinals will face off in the UMAC championship game – with a bid to the NCAA tournament on the line – at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
The Yellowjackets (20-11, 14-2) earned the right to host its first conference playoff match with their 25-12, 25-11, 25-18 win over North Central at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
UWS limited the Rams to a .044 attack percentage and hit at a .386 clip itself.
Superior’s Taylor Howe led all players with nine kills and Emily VerWay added 31 assists and 11 digs. As a team, UWS collected 43 kills and made only nine errors.
The Rams (6-24, 1-15) committed 16 errors to go with 20 kills.
’JACKET JOTTINGS: UWS honored its four graduating players, VerWay, Doranna Blascyk, Ashlee Bayer and Karlie Leif, in a senior night ceremony prior to Friday’s match. … In conference play, the Yellowjackets were led by Howe (3.12 kills per set), Cami Sletta (3.02 kills per set) and VerWay (10.98 assists, 0.44 aces, and 2.78 digs per set).
