The Superior High School volleyball team won its first playoff match since 2011 with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-10) win over New Richmond in the opening round of the WIAA Division 1 playoffs Thursday, Oct. 18, in the SHS gym.

The Spartans’ last playoff win was 3-0 over Antigo on Oct. 22, 2011 in the SHS gym. Superior went on to lose at Merrill 3-0.

The Spartans will now play the Eau Claire North Huskies (23-10) in one regional final at 7 p.m. Saturday in Eau Claire. 

Superior and ECN opened the season against each other at the Husky Quad with the Spartans coming out on top 2-0.

ECN advanced to Saturday's match with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-10) win over Wisconsin Rapids.

Saturday’s winner will play the winner of No. 1 River Falls or Eau Claire Memorial at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, in Wisconsin Rapids.
