Leonardo Paredes scored a pair of goals to help the University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s soccer team defeat Martin Luther 3-1 on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

The win was the eighth straight for the Yellowjackets, who ran their unbeaten to 13 games (12-0-1).

UWS (12-2-1 overall, 7-0-1 UMAC) also got a goal from Blake Perry, his eighth goal of the season.

 

Women’s soccer

Liza Shelquist snapped a scoreless tie in the 102nd minute giving UWS a 1-0 win over Martin Luther Saturday at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

Madison Gutekunst picked up her first collegiate shutout with four saves for the Yellowjackets (4-9-1, 4-4).

UWS also lost 1-0 to Macalester on Thursday, Oct. 11, in St. Paul.

Yukeria Haywood's 75th-minute goal snapped the scoreless deadlock for the Scots.

Keeper Madison Gutekunst kept the Yellowjackets in the contest by stopping 12-of-13 shots. Her counterpart, Kayla Togneri, faced only one shot for Macalester (3-6-3).

 

Cross country

The men finished in 40th place and the women 51st in the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Jordan Koski was the top male finisher for the Yellowjackets, placing 110th. Ali Manthey was the top women runner for UWS, placing 238th.

 

Volleyball

The Yellowjackets got back in the win column Friday, Oct. 12, with a 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-22) win at St. Catherine, the same team that beat them in five sets in Superior on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Taylor Howe and Cami Sletta each had 13 kills and Emily VerWay had 47 assists, giving her 982 for the season. She is now just two away from setting a new season best. She also had 22 digs, one behind team leader Karlie Leif.

UWS also defeated Martin Luther 3-0 25-13, 25-10, 25-22 on Saturday, Oct. 13, in New Ulm, Minn.

Anna Ribich had 10 kills to lead the Yellowjackets. Emily VerWay led the Yellowjackets with 27 assists and nine digs. VerWay set a new career high for assists in a season and now has 1,009.

UWS (17-9, 11-1 UMAC) is a game back of Northwestern for first place in the conference. Those two teams are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at UWS.
