The Northwestern High School volleyball team defeated the Spooner Rails 3-1 (25-15,16-25, 26-24, 25-23) Tuesday, Sept. 18 in Maple.

“The girls did a great job of starting strong in the first set,” NHS coach Charlie Hessel said. “I feel like it set the tone within our team and we were able to build confidence as the night went on.”

The Tigers were led by Jayda Klobucher, 13 kills and 13 digs; Karsyn Jones, eight kills; Brooke Ogren, seven kills and 13 digs; and Tayva Plasch, 20 assists.

“Our passing was much more solid which translated into better sets and more opportunities for our hitters,” Hessle said. “We were in a little funk in the second set and Spooner did not let anything get them down all night, but our players were able to make some adjustments and see it pay off.

“Obviously, when you look at the scores, we were pretty evenly matched. I am proud of our girls for continuing to focus on the process, play as a team, and come out with a win.”

The Tigers play at Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Thursday, Sept. 20 the host the Heidi Zosel Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.
