On Tuesday, former Northwestern Tiger Olivia Amber was named the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Women’s Nordic Skier of the Week.
Amber, a junior at Colby College in Maine, earned the honor after placing second at the Dartmouth College Carnival in the 15-kilometer classical mass start event. It was her collegiate-best finish.
Amber had a time of 45 minutes, 3 seconds. Middlebury College’s Kelsey Phinney was the winner in 44:59.
Nicolette Amber, Olivia’s older sister, skis for Middlebury. She earned a top-20 finish, placing 18th in 47:23.
Olivia Amber has been to the NCAA Division I Skiing Championships in her first two years and has piled up points this year. She has fourth at the Bates Carnival, earned another fourth at the Colby Carnival and a ninth at the Vermont event.
During the 2015 season, Amber had five top-10 finishes. Her previous best finish was third last year at the Saint Michael’s Carnival.
Colby College heads to the Williams Carnival at Lake Placid today and Saturday. Racing starts at 10 a.m. each day.
NOTES: In high school, Nicolette Amber was the runner-up at the 2012 Wisconsin High School Nordic Championships when she was a senior. The next year, Olivia Amber claimed runner-up honors in her senior year. She won the 6K skate race but took third in the 6K classic race to finish second in the overall pursuit.
