Northwestern hosts Heart O' North Conference meet
Northwestern High School hosted the Heart of the North Conference track meet on its new track Tuesday in Maple. Competing in the meet were teams from Hayward, Bloomer, Chetek, Northwestern, Ladysmith, Cumberland, Spooner and Barron.
The Tiger girls team finished 10 points behind Hayward to place second. The Tiger boys team finished in fourth place overall with 100 points. Spooner won the boys title with a team score of 151.
Lindsay Taipale finished first in the 200-meter dash for NHS, third in the 400-meter dash and fourth in the 100-meter dash. Leah Karna took first in the triple jump, fourth in the long jump and fifth in the 100-meter dash. Carolyn Prochaska finished first in the high jump, and the 3,200 relay team earned a first-place finish as well. Both Amber Gurske and Lyndsey Anttila earned second-place finishes in the 3,200 and 100-meter hurdles, respectively.
For the boys the Tiger pole vaulters -- Zak Reynolds, Chris Stovern and Nathan Nelson -- swept the top three spots. Jimmy Hosey won the 800 and took second in the 1,600. Ryan Miesbauer muscled his way to a second place finish in the shot put and a fourth in the discus.
