The results of a student survey for a new mascot for the Hurley School District were released Wednesday.
The Hurley School Board voted in January to discontinue using the Midgets as the school's mascot. The Hurley School District rebranding committee offered a survey to all 555 students and 81 staff members with three options for a new mascot. The Northstars received the most votes with 231. In second place was Storm with 171 votes and in third place was Timberjaxx with 98 votes.
The winning mascot name, the Northstars, will be presented to the School Board on June 17 for approval. Once approved a notice will go out to the community requesting drawings or sketches depicting ideas that would go along with the chosen mascot name.
