Jan. 22 marked the one-year anniversary of Lance and Billy's weight loss challenge of losing a combined 100 pounds. Well, the results are mixed due to the "sociological/non-scientific" study the two diet guru's embarked upon.
Being civic-minded and caring more of others than we do ourselves, while in the midst of our efforts, we decided to see if the advice from the "health care professionals" was true. Just because they are professionals in the field of diet, weight loss, exercise and changing one's lifestyle in regards to our eating habits, do we blindly follow their advice? We set out to prove or disprove their theories.
Billy had lost 52 pounds and had the Adonis body he possessed in the 1960s. It is unfortunate that Mrs. Billy was in the Cities most of last summer. He has gained most of his weight back. Lance lost 32 and, unfortunately, found the grad party circuit last June and gained back all but a few of those lost pounds.
Because we love our readers so much, we decided to put to test the theories of all the "professionals" that helped us lose the weight we did. We didn't exercise as much as Cathi Austin at the YMCA told us to. Dietician and friend, Mary Mahan, gave us ideas on what to eat and not to eat. Lance's doctor, Doc Holliday, gave Lance tips on caloric intake and what foods to avoid. (Are you aware that when you Google diet, there are 133 million references!) We thought we knew better than those trying to help us and we failed. However, we failed while trying to help our devoted readers, the ones we love. Wasn't that nice of us?
Well, here we go again! The gloves are off and we will succeed this time! As we get older, we realize that our health is too important and to shorten our lives due to poor diet and being overweight is crazy. There are way too many stories to write and way too many games to attend. The dust has been cleared at the offices of the Lance and Billy Weight Loss Program, and the Speedos have been tracked down. The program will begin. Weight Loss: The Second Season. Book and movie rights are still pending.

In an article to be published this Friday, we will reveal a campaign that will attract the interest of businesses and individuals in our area and present a great opportunity to help those less fortunate than ourselves. We will be asking for the involvement of many, but the rewards will be tremendous and long-lasting. Lance and Billy like win-win propositions and this is definitely one. We look forward to your participation and feedback regarding our campaign.
See you on Friday, "Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel!" It's taken us over 140 columns to work that in. We thank you in advance for your help and support.
