Recently, news involving the Roman Catholic Diocese of Superior and its administrative decisions regarding allegations of criminal behavior is quite disturbing. I am so glad we have freedom of the press in our country otherwise we may not have even heard about it. I praise the media in its coverage and advocacy. Surely, no one needs the drama or even to hear about it. But many of us believe in pursuing social justice and holding criminals accountable. The performance of the free press in the United States is commendable.

Interestingly, the newspaper of the diocese does not allow letters to the editor when discussing this topic. In my opinions, this furthers the secrecy and scandal of priest sexual abuse.

This is shameful leadership.

It appears the Catholic church is intending to continue with its deceit. As human beings, we deserve better. History will tell what happens, but in the Northland, we can rest assured we have some forum for mature discussion and faith - the Superior Telegram.
