Superior would lose an awful lot if it lost Congressman Dave Obey.

For those of you who don't know, our Constitution mandates that all spending bills originate in the House of Representatives.

Because Obey has a tremendous amount of seniority, he is the one who is the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. This means he has a unique ability to help places like Superior when we need federal money.

Without Obey's advocacy on our behalf on the appropriations committee, Superior would have a difficult time convincing Congress to give us any money. Because of Obey, we have benefited greatly by receiving extremely generous federal grants to assist our community.

Two that come to mind are the UWS construction project and a law enforcement grant, which enables us to prosecute crimes involving computers and cell phones. Both projects set Superior apart from neighboring communities and greatly improve our safety and quality of life. Having anyone other than Obey in congress would greatly diminish the likelihood that Superior would receive funds like this in the future.
