A morality play, reminiscent of the 18th century, took place in the Superior city council chambers at their last meeting on July 2.
Councilor Jenny Van Sickle was censured by the council for offending the city attorney, Frog Prell, for a legal opinion he rendered. The councilors gave numerous and varied reasons for their actions but none that justified trying to silence a woman for asserting her First Amendment right of free speech.
This is now the 21st century and free expression without retribution is available to everyone in this country, even women. If the council is annoyed by a strong, intelligent woman they are in the wrong line of work and certainly on the wrong side of history.
