Letter: Humane Society thankful for fundraisers

The Humane Society of Douglas Co., Inc. was very fortunate to be the benefactor of four fundraisers in November and December.

During the entire month of November, Applebee's of Superior hosted "Dining to Donate" and 15 percent of your bill was donated to HSDC with a mention to your server, and guests received $5 off their bill of $25 or more after donating an item of at least $5 from the wish list.

HSDC was also the recipient of Applebee's Dining to Donate throughout September.

On Nov. 24, Campbell Lumber and Supply Co. again hosted Santa Paws with photography by the talented Lady Jane.

With any monetary donation to the Humane Society, you received a 4-by-6 photo with Santa in his sleigh against a snowy backdrop with you, your pet(s) and children. About 65 people and 50 pets of all sizes, ages and breeds enjoyed this event and owners were able to take home a special memory of the day.

On Dec. 15, Culver's in Superior hosted Dining to Donate and donated 10 percent of the day's sales to the Humane Society from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. HSDC board members and volunteers delivered orders to tables and cars during lunch and dinner hours.

The "Pucks for Paws" fundraiser for the animals was created by SHS students Kylee Durfee and Karlee Hudacek for their senior project and was held Dec. 20 at the 7 p.m. hockey game at Wessman Arena. With a donation, you received a free microchip coupon for your pet.

Thanks, too, to Brittany at SCCU and Julie at Superior Glass (Blaine Business Center) for all of the advertising on their digital signs for these events and over the past year.

The overwhelming generosity of Superior businesses and individuals, students, priceless volunteers and those who supported these fundraisers is appreciated more than words can express. Merry Christmas from the animals!
