We would like to thank the citizens of Superior, Mayor Paine and the Common Council for their continued support of Superior Fire Department operations. On March 5, three firefighter positions were restored to our department by a unanimous vote of the Council.

With the benefit of many years of experience with the fire department, we have a deep appreciation and gratitude for the opportunity you have given today and the benefits it will bring to our firefighters in the future.

Special mention must be given to Councilor Fennessey and Councilor Sutherland for their individual initiative to make this a reality. Through their work, a path was developed to fund these firefighters without impacting the tax levy decrease in 2019 or affecting the expenditure restraint program.

Without Councilor Fennessey and Councilor Sutherland's effort, this opportunity would have passed us by.

This is also a success story for the FEMA Staffing for Adequate Firefighter and Emergency Response grant program, which fully funded these positions for four years, allowing first-hand experience of the impact the additional staffing can bring. The City of Superior owes a debt of gratitude to these critical federal programs.

We look forward to welcoming these firefighters to our team in May for the benefit of our community for years to come.

Sincerely in your service,
