Citizens launch petition against waterfront hotel

A new petition has been started opposing the sale of land and creation of a tax increment finance district in connection with the proposed Hampton Inn on East Second Street in Superior.
The petition states:
“1. Until Wisconsin DNR and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers complete proper environmental studies and determine boundaries of the land held in Public Trust for the citizens of Wisconsin, we oppose against the City of Superior, WI, selling waterfront land between the Bong Museum and Perkins restaurant on E. 2nd Street to ZMC Hotels, Inc. and Zenith Superior, LLC.
“2. We oppose against the City of Superior using Tax Incremental District #13 to provide a public subsidy to ZMC Hotels Inc. and Zenith Superior LLC.”
