The Humane Society of Douglas County's 13th annual Paws for Love gala was held Saturday, April 27, at the UW-Superior Yellowjacket Union with a capacity guest list of 181.
This "FUNdraiser," which features a gourmet dinner, silent, live and dessert auction, continues to be very popular. Almost $29,000 was raised, which will support homeless and stray animals housed at the Superior Animal Shelter with food, shelter, medical care and necessary emergency treatment, giving them a chance at a "forever home."
Paws for Love was made possible by the generous monetary support of numerous major sponsors, which helped to defray the cost of hosting this event.
Their spirit of giving back to help Superior's less fortunate animals is paramount to the success of this event. Just over $16,000 worth of silent and live auction items were donated by local and some out-of-state businesses to provide guests with a wide array of packages to bid on.
Community members also donated financially. We are truly grateful for all of this support.
Two thumbs up to Gene Demko for again creating the touching shelter video shown throughout the evening, our effervescent emcee Lou Campbell and pianist, Chad (CJ) Hanson.
Kudos to the staff at UWS for accommodating our needs as well as to our dedicated Paws for Love Committee who have been meeting for months to plan this event to ensure its success.
A selection of "happy ending" success stories from the past year were recounted by Shelter Director Sheila Keup and featured in a PowerPoint presentation. These animals received a second chance at life and love due to the continuing support of HSDC!
A selection of delicious desserts were donated by various local businesses and bid upon by guests which provided some added entertainment.
Lastly, our guests show their commitment to our mission by their attendance each year and we are truly blessed. Your ongoing support is evidence of your compassion for animals and will ensure that the lifesaving mission of HSDC will continue. Heartfelt thanks goes out to all of you.
Together, we are making a difference!
Please mark your calendar for Paws for Love 2020 on April 25.
