Tracy L. Kilpela

Tracy L. Kilpela, 63, longtime resident of Superior, WI, died peacefully, Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN.

She was born in Duluth, September 6, 1958, the daughter of Robert and Myrtle (Johnson) Biles.

Tracy graduated high school and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from the college of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. She worked as a Case Manager within the Federal Prison System for many years before her retirement.

Tracy loved many things. She was very passionate about animals and donated both her time and money to animal rescue organizations. She even earned volunteer of the month at the local shelter, and fostered a few dogs, and eventually adopted two of those she fostered. Her kitties, Kiki and Etta were very much part of her family and brought her much happiness.

Tracy was always a very strong-willed personality who fought hard for what she believed in. She loved a good debate and spent many hours engaging her grandsons, Gabe and Logan in discussions that encouraged them to look at new views and expand their knowledge of topics, political and personal.

She had a special love for her granddaughter Chloe. They would snuggle together watching movies and she always indulged Chloe’s latest trends. She bought many wigs, makeup and outfits for Chloe’s cosplay and adored her so much she even conceded and allowed Chloe to get a corn snake.

Family, tradition, and presents were very important to Tracy. She loved holidays, birthdays, gift giving, (and receiving), were among her favorite things. Being with those she loved and called family and friends made her glow.

Tracy was kind, caring, compassionate and definitely someone you wanted in your corner when facing just about anything. She had a fantastic sense of humor and a wonderful ear when you needed someone to bounce ideas off, or just to listen. Her presence in life was large and her passing will leave an enormous hole that will be impossible to fill.

She was loved, right here, right now, yesterday, and forevermore.

She is survived by her daughter, Adrienne Michelle Kilsdonk, Superior, WI; her beloved grandchildren, Gabriel, Logan, and Chloe; stepchildren, Calliope, Kayla, and Jesse Kilpela; nieces, Tammi (Jeff) Norlund, and Heather Kaufhold; grandniece, Courtney Whiteside Allen; and great-grandnieces, Azelea and Ember.

She is preceded in death by her best friend, Mark Kilpela; her parents; sister, Terri Whiteside; and infant brother, Ward.

A Visitation and Celebration of Tracy’s Life will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior.
