Roy E. Sibila
Roy E Sibila, 90, of South Range, died peacefully Sunday October 11, 2020 at Essentia Health, St. Mary’s Hospital of Duluth surrounded by family.
Roy was born in Superior on August 28, 1930 the son of Andrew and Laina (Leiviska) Sibila. He graduated from Central High School in Superior in 1948 where he was a standout football player and known as one of Central’s own touchdown twins. He was also class president and senior prom king.
Roy served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. He married the love of his life Ellen J. Vendela in December of 1952 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage until her passing in 2012.
Roy served as a director and counselor at The Horizon Halfway House in Superior, WI for over 10 years. He then returned to college and received his bachelor’s degree at the age of 53 which led to a job in the Mechanical Engineering Department at UW Madison until he retired. One of his greatest joys while working there was being able to look out his window and see the football stadium and occasionally catch a Badger game. Roy enjoyed watching college football, visiting with family and friends and listening to Polka.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; daughter, Linda Sibila; and his siblings.
Roy is survived by his children, Bob Sibila of Superior, Tammy (Richard) Peterson of Solon Springs, Rodney (Jean) Sibila of Mansfield, Texas; and Stacie Sibila of South Range; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at a later date.
