Robert ‘Bob’ G. Van Ert

Robert ‘Bob’ G. Van Ert, 76 of Superior died Thursday May 13, 2021 at Twin Ports Health and Rehabilitation in Superior surrounded by his family.

Robert was born in Superior on June 12, 1944 the son of Joseph and Jane (Mackyol) Van Ert.

Bob worked as an auto mechanic at many service stations including College Texaco in Superior during the 1960’s and ran Superior Quicklube in South End Superior.

Bob always expressed kindness and was caring to everyone. He loved to make people laugh and smile. For years, Bob was Santa Claus for family’s and businesses in the area. He was a hospice volunteer and a member of the Lions Club.

He loved auto racing. He drove race cars and built and owned race cars through the years. He also enjoyed classic cars, wildlife, camping and a good joke! Most of all, he loved spending time time with his family.

Friendships meant a lot to Bob and he developed many over the years that were all dear to him. A few special friends he would like to acknowledge are Ken Chaffey, Sr., Vern Erickson, Jeff Petrin, Roger Deloach and Angie Arden.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gladys; daughter, Lynell (Carey) Strong of Superior; son, Jason Van Ert of Superior; grandson, Bradley Van Ert of Superior; brothers, Fran (Sue) Van Ert of Superior and Richard Van Ert of Eau Claire; sisters, Kay LeDoux of Spooner, Billie Jo Van Ert of South Range, Margie (John) Caple of Oliver; sister-in-law, Lillie Olson; special nephew, Pat Van Ert of Superior; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

As per Bob’s request, a private family service will be held on Mon. May 24th at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19th St. in Superior. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

A public Celebration of Bob’s life will follow from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Aces On 29th, 2827 Oakes Avenue, Superior.

The family would like to give an incredibly special thank you to the staff at Twin Ports Health and Rehab for their loving and amazing care of Bob.
