Phillip Lance Rasmussen

Phil Rasmussen, 60, of Superior, WI, died peacefully on 08/29/2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. For the last 17 years Phil has been courageously battling brain cancer. He has endured 3 surgeries, radiation, chemo, a stroke, seizures, and brain damage, and yet he never stopped fighting until he just did not have the strength to go on any longer.

He was born on November 23, 1959 in Superior, WI, son of Conchuita (Connie Brown) Johnson and Eugene Rasmussen.

Phil spent most of his childhood growing up in Hawthorne, WI and graduated from Northwestern High School, Maple, WI in 1978. He became an OTR truck driver in the early 80’s working for Halvor Lines, Jeff Foster Trucking, and Sue Cronin Trucking in the Superior, WI area. In the late 90’s Phil drove truck for Praxair in the Twin Cities, until he became too sick to continue working in 2010. Phil’s hobbies included, working with wood and making picture frames, toy boxes, picnic tables, and building decks. He also loved riding his Harley and spending time with his good friends, like Mark and Cookie Simonson, Tim and Terri Ross, and his cousin, David Rasmussen.

Proceeding him in death was his father, Eugene Rasmussen in 1991; his mother, Connie Johnson in 1996; his step-father, Marvin Johnson in 2009; and step-brother David Johnson in 2014.

Survivors include a son, Seth Rasmussen, South Range, WI; sisters, Sheila Rasmussen, Superior, WI, Julie Rasmussen (Corinne Discher), Kingman AZ, Donna (Ray) Soyring, New Richmond, WI, Sue (Steve) Wedan, Lake Nebagamon, WI; a half-sister, Rae Jean (Robert) Pratt, Mulberry, FL; a step-brother, Rodney (Malinda) Johnson, Dandridge, TN; grandchildren, Jade Rasmussen, Hunter Schwanangel; and many nieces and nephews.

There will not be any formal funeral services. Instead, Phil has requested a Celebration of Life to be held at the Kopper Kettle in South Range, WI. Due to Covid-19, the Celebration of Life will be held outdoors on September 19, 2020 from 1-5 pm. It will be a Potluck, so if you can, please bring a dish to share with family and friends.
