Viola J. Mack

Viola J. Mack, 91, of Foxboro, passed away with family at her side Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Villa Marina Nursing Home Superior, WI.

Viola (Vi) was born at her home in Dairyland, WI January 4, 1932 the daughter of Margaret and Theodore Swang.

Vi retired from Bryant Elementary with the Superior School District as a Custodian Engineer after 32 years of employment. For most of those years, she was at the Patzau School and took great pride in her work of keeping the boilers running and the school functional and clean for both the teachers and the students. She formed many lifelong friendships with all those who entered the building. While there she was very blessed to have made a friend to the end, Mary Vana, who was always there when needed throughout the 54 years of their friendship.

Vi mostly enjoyed spending time with her daughter Dianne and her grandkids. They enjoyed “treasure hunting”, day trips, 4-H, and making memories. She was a good cook and was known for her famous frosted sugar and Aunt Sally cookies. She enjoyed Homemakers Club, fishing, gardening, watching soap operas, and taking numerous bus trips around the USA with good friends. She loved her many animals throughout the years, her many out-buildings, her beloved donkey Ernie, her multiple collections; one inclusive of over 1,000 PEZ dispensers, and Elvis Presley. She was a generous, dedicated, and kind spirit who was always giving of herself and always helping others.

She was preceded in death by her infant son at birth, William; Richard Mack; her parents; sister Mila Carlson; brother Albert Swang; sister-in-law Kathleen Swang, and brothers-in-law Glen Carlson, Fred Bielke, and LeRoy Mack.

Vi is survived by her daughter Dianne (Andrew) James; Grandchildren Sara and Anthony; Sister Gloria Bielke; sister-in-law Connie Mack; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Special family friends, Vance Meier, Mary Vana, and Shirley Saker; and special nieces, Vicki (Jeff) Anderson, Nancy (Dennis) Ross, Tammy (David) Anderson, and Donna (Bob) Okash.

Her visitation will be on Saturday, January 21st at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church (4020 South Darrow Road, Superior) at 10 am followed by the 11 a.m. funeral service. Pastor Fleming and Champlain Darrell Kyle will officiate. Interment with her family will be in River Hill Cemetery in Dairyland at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of Villa Marina for their care of Vi during her extended stay.
