Leon A. Nord

Leon A. Nord passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the age of 97 in St. Luke’s Hospital, after a short illness.

Leon was born on Dec. 20, 1924 in Floodwood, MN. He was a loving husband, father, grandchild spoiling grandfather, veteran, avid golfer, pilot, artist, hockey coach, and a friend to all. He was a social butterfly and always seemed to know a few people in every room. He was also the inspiration for the “Nordie”.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, aunt Sye Klauke, daughter Kim Nord-Bleskan, and his son Patrick Nord.

He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 43 years, Dorothy Nord, his daughter Cindy (Jim Freese) Holm, and three grandchildren Jillian Holm, Cole (Kristy) Bleskan, Kati (Kevin) Ruhnke, and many nieces and nephews.

Leon led a long happy life filled with a loving family, many friends and associates. He enriched the lives of all those that knew him. He will always live on in the lives of the people he encountered.

The family would like to send a special thanks to his nephew Joe (Julie) Kubala, and his niece Donna (Lauren) Sletten for all their help, love, and support over these many years.

A celebration of life will be held at Downs Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. with Military Honors Accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
