Geraldine “Jeri” Marie (Renier) Ogren, 88, of Iron River, WI, died on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at her home in Iron River. Jeri was born on January 5, 1934 in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Oscar and Charlotte (Martin) Renier.

Jeri grew up in West Duluth and graduated from Cathedral High School. She attended the College of St. Scholastica and graduated with a degree in Education Home Economics, Science. She taught home economics in Port Wing, Milwaukee and Iron River, WI high schools.

As a new teacher at South Shore High School in Port Wing, she met her future husband, Willard Ogren. They were married on July 26, 1958 in Duluth, MN. Jeri and Willard made their home in Port Wing and soon after were blessed with 5 children. Eventually, they moved to Iron River, WI where they lived for the past 35 years. Jeri and Willard celebrated 62 wonderful years together.

Jeri also worked with the family businesses. She and Willard became active owners of Security State Bank and Security Bank and was recently honored by the Wisconsin Banker’s Association for 50 years of service as Director/Secretary of Security State Bank.

She was always an active member of the communities in which she lived. She was a member of the Monday Evening Club, Den Mother for Cub Scouts, TOPS, volunteered with the Port Wing Fish Boil, was in various book clubs and was active in the Catholic churches in Port Wing and Iron River, where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society. Inspired by her mother’s and her own devotion to the life of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha she donated a statue of her likeness to the Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior, WI.

Her love of travel started as a young girl when she took trips with her parents. She was able to travel extensively throughout her life, visited many parts of the world, spent time with family in Belgium and saw some of the great wonders such as the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China. Hawaii and St. Maarten were favorite vacation destinations for Jeri & Willard, where they always seemed to find a new adventure.

Jeri will always be remembered for her kind heart, her humor and wit, her artistic talent, the strength of her faith, her generosity and her love of her family and friends. Family gatherings with her children and grandchildren always gave her joy. Being all together over the holidays, lutefisk at Christmas, summer pontoon rides, theme parties, family ski trips (even though skiing wasn’t her favorite) and boating on Lake Superior were just a few of the many memories she created and loved.
