Bob (BVD) Van Driessche

Bob (BVD) Van Driessche, 88 years old of Lake Nebagamon, WI and Camarillo, CA passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022 at his home in California surrounded by family and friends. He was born March 14, 1934 in Superior, WI the only child of Louie and Emma (Lagae) Van Driessche.

He graduated from Cathedral High School and then proudly served in Korea. Bob went on to UW Superior for both a Bachelor Degree in teaching and a Masters degree in School Administration. Bob taught 6th grade in Poplar, WI before he moved to California and continued teaching 6th grade for 30+ years. During the Summer he taught Driver’s Ed at Superior High School.

Bob and Sue were married August 20, 1985 and celebrated 36 years together. They enjoyed the winters in California and many wonderful trips traveling back and forth every year spending spring, summer and fall at the cabin in lake Nebagamon. Relaxing on “Sue’s Pontoon”, being with friends and family at the lake and spending time with friends at Bridge’s Bar were his favorite times.

He spent time fishing, shooting pool and pitching “Big Ball” softball on weekly teams. Well into his 80’s, up until he suffered a stroke in 2019, Bob was very active and loved to golf 3 or more times per week as well as bow hunting daily during the deer season.

Bob is survived by his wife Sue, (Camarillo). Children: Jeannie (Smutz) Szymonowicz (Superior, WI), Ken Van Driessche (Simi Valley, CA), Tim Van Driessche (Nipomo, CA). Step Children: John Bermudez (Camarillo, CA), Lisa (Tim) Pearson, Cour de Laine, ID. Grandchildren: Jesse Armbrust, Spencer and Sterling Szymonowicz, Jeremy and Aaron Van Driessche. Step Grand Children: Zach, Samantha, Ethan, Malia, Lalia, Bonnie Jean Pearson and John Bermudez. Great granddaughter: Lilliana Van Driessche. Special Friends: Des Currie and Chuck De Smet, numerous cousins and friends.

A Celebration of his life will take place later this summer.
