Betty A. Heytens, 91, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Howard Community Hospital in Kokomo, IN.

She was a longtime resident of Superior, from her birth in 1931 until she relocated to Kokomo, IN in May 2021, to receive support from her family. She always considered Superior her home.

Daughter of Clara VanLandschoot and Edmund DeBock, Betty graduated from Superior East High School in 1945. She worked at the Superior National Bank in her early adult years. In 1955 she married Eugene G. Heytens. They were married for 33 years, until his sudden death in November 1988. She missed him every day of her remaining life.

Betty was an active member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Superior for 89 years. She enjoyed attending Mass, volunteering, and supporting the church, as well as visiting with her church friends.

Betty was a loving wife, mother, relative, and friend. She worked at the Prime Steer Steak House as the hostess for over 20 years, was an active member of the Wildflower Garden Club, loved to play cards, cook, read, and knit. Most of all she loved spending time with her immediate and extended family, and her cat named Katy.

Betty is survived by her only child, daughter Rhonda Heytens; her husband Bob Lemcke, Kokomo, IN; two grandchildren, Gina Lemcke (husband Dana Mahoney), Manchester, NH and Derek Lemcke, Kokomo, who were the light of her life in recent years; sister Natalie Miller, Poplar, WI; sister-in-law Marie DeBock, Kenosha, WI; four nieces and three nephews; special cousins Kay Gustafson, Superior, and Deidre Gaynor-Peterson, Punta Gorda, FL.

Extra special friends preceding Betty in death include her aunts Erma Gaynor and Thelma VanLandschoot, and her “first grade friend” Faye Harrington. These ladies enjoyed exciting travel vacations and many adventures together after their families were grown.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 4215 East 3rd Street, Superior, with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant. Burial will be at a later date at St. Francis Cemetery, Superior. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00 AM on Thursday at the church.
