Alice I. Larson

Alice I. Larson, 77, of Superior, died Monday, January 30, 2023, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.

She was born in Escanaba, MI on April 11, 1945, the daughter of Signe (Ahola) and Eino Salmi.

Her secondary education was completed at Rock High School in Rock, Michigan. While in high school she enjoyed being a cheerleader. She went on to Career Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated as a Medical Assistant. She also attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Alice I. Salmi married James M. Larson on July 25th, 1964, at Perkins, MI, and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage together.

She worked as a cook at the old Cooper School for many years. She also completed her insurance agent license and proudly worked for many insurance agencies including Field, Holden, DeSmet, and Rockwood.

Alice was an active member of the former St. Patrick Parish in Billings Park. She taught Sunday School, organized church dinners, and was a Eucharist Minister.

Jim and Alice loved to travel and visited all 50 United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Panama Canal. She enjoyed yearly ski trips to Colorado and Montana, with Keystone, CO, as her favorite. Other highlights of her travels include visiting Mexico to follow the monarch butterfly migration and traveling to Dutch Harbor, AK to fish on the Bering Sea, catching the largest halibut of the group.

Golf was another passion of hers, especially being with her friends in the Elks Golf League. Bunco get-togethers and the women’s bowling league were other interests of hers. She carded a hole-in-one at Nemadji before her husband Jim and bowled a 299 game.

She and Jim donated many years of service as the Concession Managers for the Superior Amateur Hockey Association at the old Municipal Rink.

Alice is survived by her husband, Jim; sons, Matthew (Tammy), Peter (Patti), David (Laurie), and John (Stacey); grandchildren, Brandon, Jessica, Cully, Joshua, Kaytlyn, Nick, Cole, and Ella; great grandchildren, Bentley, Brookston, and Blakelynn; brother, Gerald Salmi; sisters-in-law, Mary (Bob) Wygant, Barbara (Tom) Cleary; and special friends, Wendy Hickok, Linda Raboin, and Rock Girls-Bonnie, Laurie, Ruth, and Sandy.

Visitation will begin at 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral mass on Friday, February 3, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Superior. The Very Reverend Father James Tobolski will be the celebrant.

The family wishes to personally thank Dr. Thenappan from the U of M Health Fairview and Dr. Boddicker of the Essentia Health Heart Center, and the care team at Solvay Hospice House for their kind and compassionate support during her final days.
