Allen Dale Will, 83, of Superior, died Wednesday November 18, 2020 at Superior Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Superior.
He was born October 14, 1937 in Calloway, Nebraska, son of Clyde and Dorothea (Dyke) Will.
When Al was 2 years old, he and his family moved from Nebraska to northern Wisconsin. Not only Al and his family, but all their possessions, including all their cattle, traveled by rail to Wisconsin.
Al ‘s work history started at U.S. Steel in Morgan Park, was a jet mechanic and security police officer with the 148th Air Guard in Duluth, and for over 32 years worked for the Superior Police Department. He was the first police liaison officer at Superior High School and retired from the SPD as captain.
On June 16, 1979 in Superior, Allen Will married Mary Gallagher.
Some of his interests included watching his sons play hockey and baseball, vegetable gardening, bird watching and feeding, deer hunting with rifle or bow, fishing on Lake Superior with his good friend Ron Rep, and cutting and burning firewood – much to the dismay of his sons. In his younger years, he played baseball with the Douglas County Vacation League and was an amateur boxer.
Al took great pride in the fact that he alone built their first house, from the ground up at 1608 Logan Avenue. He also built the wood stove used to heat the house.
He was a long-time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Superior.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and first wife, Patricia.
Survivors include his wife of over 41 years, Mary; sons, David (Brenda) Will, Antigo, WI, Dennis (Tania) Will, Northfield, MN, and Shawn Gallagher, Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, Andrew, Daniel, Lydia, Rachel, Sarah, and Ryan; brother, Gerald (Sandy) Will, Foxboro, WI; and his King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Pebbles.
A memorial service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Superior, next summer.
Burial will be in Summit Cemetery, Town of Summit, Wisconsin.
