Kathleen J. Kangas

Kathleen J. Kangas, 70, lifelong resident of Superior died peacefully, Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Superior Rehabilitation Center which was her home for many years.

She was born in Superior, January 7, 1951 the daughter of Walter and Martha (Ruokonen) Kangas.

She graduated from Superior Senior High School, where she participated in choir and orchestra.

Kathy was a former member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Superior.

She enjoyed crafting and crocheting, and especially loved spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Danielle Schmidt, Charles City, IA; sister, Carolyn Mattes, Mesa, Az; brother, Del (Karen) Kangas, Superior, WI; nephews, Martin (Diane) Kangas, David (Jody) Kangas, Matthew (Brooke) Kangas, Peter Schleicher; and several cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn Schleicher; and brother-in-law, Roger Mattes.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Superior Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care and kindness they offered Kathy and her family over the years. And a special thanks to Essentia Health Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1924 Wyoming Avenue, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service with Pastor Sean Koos officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Kathy’s name to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Superior.
